In a tragic incident in Adamawa State, a 9-year-old child has died and four others have been severely burned after their home was set on fire. The children are the offspring of Daniel Cha’ama from Mubi Local Government Area. The fire was allegedly set by Nicodemus Ajaku, who has been in a land dispute with Cha’ama.
Ajaku, who is now on the run, is believed to have mistakenly targeted the room where Cha’ama’s children were sleeping instead of Cha’ama himself. The fire led to the death of 9-year-old Chimba Daniel and left the other children—Dida Daniel, Isaac Daniel, Nglacha Daniel, and Emmanuel Hyeldinga—with severe burns.
Witnesses reported that Ajaku and Cha’ama had been involved in a legal battle over land, having been to court twice. After the arson attack, Ajaku fled and remains at large. Little Chimba Daniel died from the burns while being transported to Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital in Yola.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, has promised that the perpetrator will be apprehended and brought to justice. The state Commissioner of Police, CP Morris Dankwambo, has directed the police to provide support to the victims, who are currently receiving medical treatment.
