Nigerian Government Announces New Passport Fees Effective September 2024

The Nigerian government has officially announced that passport fees will be going up, starting from September 1, 2024. This decision was revealed by DCI Kenneth Udo, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), who explained that the move is aimed at maintaining the quality and integrity of Nigerian passports.

As per the new structure, the cost for a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity will jump from N35,000 to N50,000. Likewise, a 64-page passport booklet with a 10-year validity will now cost N100,000, compared to the previous price of N70,000. However, it’s worth noting that passport fees for Nigerians living abroad will stay the same.

Though this increase may be inconvenient for some, the NIS has assured citizens that their commitment to delivering quality service remains strong. They promise that the higher costs are meant to uphold the standards of the passport system while keeping it secure and reliable.

For those planning to apply for or renew their passports, it’s essential to be aware of these changes and prepare accordingly.
