In Ogun State, the Ogun State Police Command has successfully arrested a well-known cultist, Adekunle Adebanjo, popularly known as Kunle Polly. This arrest follows allegations that he was involved in the gruesome killing of a rival gang member identified as ‘Mosquito’.
The incident unfolded on August 12, 2024, when a concerned citizen made an urgent call to the Divisional Police Station in Igbeba. The caller reported a violent clash between rival cult groups. During this altercation, ‘Mosquito’ was shot and severely attacked. The assailants not only used machetes but also mutilated the victim by severing his left hand before fleeing the scene.
The police, led by spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola, acted swiftly upon receiving the distress call. They launched an immediate investigation, which was significantly aided by credible information provided by the public. This led them to Kunle Polly’s hideout in Isiwo Ijebu, where he was captured at 12:03 am on August 17, 2024.
The statement read.
”Upon receiving this information, a team of detectives promptly mobilised and took action by moving to the location, where one suspect, Adekunle Adebajo, aka Kunle Polly, 34, was apprehended,“
“During interrogation, Kunle Polly admitted to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.
“This prompted a search to be conducted at his residence, leading to the recovery of a Beretta pistol with six rounds of live ammunition, two UTC axes, and charms.
“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the pattern of severing the left hand of their victims, and to arrest other criminals that fled the hideout.
According to Odutola, the suspect is presently undergoing preliminary investigation in Igbeba Division, Ijebu-Ode.
“The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, has reassured the people that the era of cultism in Isiwo Ijebu community has gone.
“Alamutu promised that the remaining suspects would be brought to justice for their crimes,” she added. .
