NAFDAC Shuts Down Illegal Alcohol Factory in Lagos, Seizes Goods Worth N200 Million

In a major operation, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered an illegal alcohol production factory on Lagos Island, Lagos State. This discovery was made after a detailed investigation and surveillance by NAFDAC officials, which led them to several shops and rooms in the Oke-Arin market that had been secretly transformed into makeshift alcohol factories.

The illegal factory was producing, packaging, and distributing various brands of alcoholic beverages to the open market. During the raid, NAFDAC seized more than 2,000 cartons of empty bottles, already-packaged alcoholic drinks, a small plastic mixing tank, an improvised filter, and other packaging materials. The value of the seized goods is estimated to be around N200 million.

Three individuals, Mr. Ikenna Daniel Ndeka, Mr. Innocent Chike, and Mr. Chukwu John, were arrested in connection with the illegal operation. NAFDAC confirmed that investigations are still ongoing, and once completed, the suspects will face prosecution.

NAFDAC also urged consumers to stay cautious and vigilant when purchasing alcoholic beverages. They advised the public to buy from trustworthy sources to avoid consuming unregulated and potentially harmful products.

The agency’s continued efforts to crack down on illegal operations like this aim to protect public health and ensure that only safe, regulated products are available in the market.

Stay informed and be careful when purchasing alcoholic drinks – it could make all the difference.
