Akwa Ibom Governor’s WhatsApp Number Hacked by Fraudsters

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has fallen victim to a WhatsApp hack. On Tuesday, it was revealed that fraudsters had hacked into his WhatsApp account and started sending messages to people in his contact list. These messages requested money to be sent to a specific account, promising a refund later.

Ekerete Udoh, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Eno, confirmed that the governor’s WhatsApp number had been “cloned” by these criminals. The CPS has assured the public that these messages are not from the governor and advised everyone to ignore such requests.

Authorities have been alerted, and law enforcement agencies are currently investigating the scam to track down those responsible. This incident comes shortly after another similar hack involving the phone number of Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun.

The full statement,

“Our attention has been drawn to carefully orchestrated fraudulent posts on some social media platforms, where some criminal elements have cloned the WhatsApp number of His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, with an intent to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

“We hereby warn that any message appearing to solicit funds by these imposters should be totally discountenanced by the general public as they do not emanate from the Governor.

“The law enforcement agents have been duly alerted and are on the trail of the perpetrators of this ignoble act.”
