On Sunday evening, a devastating boat accident occurred in the Dundaye community of Wamakko Local Government Area, Sokoto State, leading to the tragic loss of four lives.
The accident sent shockwaves through the community as local authorities and rescue teams quickly mobilized to respond. A joint effort by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Nigerian Red Cross, Fire Services, and the State Emergency Management Agency, along with local divers, was initiated to rescue those affected.
By Monday, the rescue teams had recovered the bodies of the four victims. The Head of the Sokoto Field Operation Office of NEMA, Alhaji Aliyu Kafindangi, confirmed the incident and expressed deep sorrow over the loss. He also extended his gratitude to the state and local governments, as well as the members of the Dundaye community, for their overwhelming support in the rescue operations.
He said,
”Based on investigation, 24 persons were involved in the incident but 19 of them have been rescued.
”One dead body was recovered on Sunday and yesterday we recovered additional three, bringing the number of deaths to four.
”One person is still missing but search and rescue is still ongoing,”
