A 58-year-old man, Shuaibu Isiaka, has been arrested by the Nasarawa State Police Command for allegedly defrauding a member of the public out of ₦17 million. The suspect, also known as “Ziko,” reportedly pretended to have connections with the Nasarawa State Governor and convinced his victim that he could secure a government contract for them.
According to the police spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the suspect managed to obtain the large sum of money under false pretenses. The arrest was made after a petition was filed against Isiaka, leading to an investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department. During questioning, Isiaka admitted to the crime but claimed he only took ₦14 million, not ₦17 million as initially reported.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. He emphasized that anyone found to be involved, regardless of their status, will face the law. The police also warned the public to be cautious of fraudsters who name-drop influential people to deceive others.
