Father Found Guilty of Sending 17-Year-Old Son to Murder Rapper PnB Rock

In a shocking case that has captured widespread attention, Freddie Trone, a 42-year-old man from California, has been found guilty of orchestrating the murder of Philadelphia rapper PnB Rock by sending his 17-year-old son to commit the crime. On Wednesday, August 7, after just four hours of deliberation, a California jury convicted Trone of one count of murder, two counts of robbery, and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery.

The tragic incident took place on September 12, 2022, at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in South Los Angeles. PnB Rock, whose real name was Rakim Allen, was dining with the mother of his 4-year-old daughter when he was approached by Trone’s teenage son. The teen, acting on orders from his father, robbed the rapper of his valuable jewelry before shooting him in cold blood. PnB Rock was just 30 years old at the time of his death and was best known for his 2016 hit “Selfish” and his collaborations with artists such as YFN Lucci and Ed Sheeran.

The Courtroom Drama

During the two-week trial, prosecutors painted a damning picture of Freddie Trone’s involvement in the crime. They argued that Trone was the mastermind behind the robbery and murder, citing video evidence and witness testimonies. The prosecution emphasized that although Trone did not pull the trigger, his role as a “major participant” in the crime made him equally responsible under the law, especially given his “reckless indifference to human life.”

Surveillance footage showed Trone in the parking lot of the restaurant approximately 30 minutes before the killing occurred. While Trone testified that he was there to promote his nearby beauty shop, prosecutors countered this claim by showing an image of another man, Tremont Jones, fist-bumping PnB Rock before the crime. Prosecutors alleged that Jones, who was later convicted of two counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery, tipped off Trone about the rapper’s presence and the valuable jewelry he was wearing.

Trone’s Defense and Testimony

In a rare and risky legal move, the defense chose to put Trone on the stand. Trone vehemently denied any involvement in planning the crime, insisting that he was neither present at the scene nor responsible for the actions of his son. “I never had nothing to do with it,” Trone testified. “I wasn’t there. I didn’t tell nobody to do nothing. I didn’t hand nobody no gun.”

However, Trone did admit on the stand that the crimes were “heinous” and acknowledged that his son was “dangerous.” The prosecution seized on these admissions during their closing arguments, asking the jury to consider why a father would send his troubled son into such a situation if not to commit a crime.

The Verdict and Its Implications

Ultimately, the jury found Trone guilty on all charges, concluding that his involvement went beyond being an accessory after the fact. Trone now faces a lengthy prison sentence for his role in the murder of PnB Rock.

Meanwhile, Trone’s son, who is now 19, has also been charged with murder. However, he remains in juvenile custody after a judge ruled that he is not currently competent to stand trial. This decision adds another layer of complexity to an already tragic case.

Tremont Jones, who was implicated in the robbery but not the murder, was also convicted and now faces his own legal challenges. His lawyer, David Haas, has announced plans to appeal the conviction.

Remembering PnB Rock

The death of PnB Rock sent shockwaves through the music community and beyond. Known for his unique blend of melodic rap and R&B, PnB Rock made a significant impact on the hip-hop scene. His 2016 hit “Selfish” remains a fan favorite, and his collaborations with artists like YFN Lucci on “Everyday We Lit” and Ed Sheeran on “Cross Me” with Chance the Rapper showcased his versatility as an artist.

As the legal proceedings continue to unfold, the tragic loss of PnB Rock serves as a grim reminder of the dangers that can arise from senseless violence and the far-reaching consequences of one man’s reckless actions.
