Chelsea’s has dropped their pursuit of Napoli’s Victor Osimhen due to his hefty £111m release clause. Instead, they are turning their attention to Samu Omorodion, a Spanish-born Nigerian striker. Chelsea is now negotiating with Atletico Madrid to bring Omorodion to Stamford Bridge for around £30m, despite his modest performance on loan at Alaves, where he scored nine goals in 35 LaLiga games.
Previously, Chelsea had considered a swap deal involving Romelu Lukaku and cash to sign Osimhen. However, with the high cost making the deal difficult, Chelsea has decided to move on.
As Chelsea shifts their focus, Arsenal might take this opportunity to pursue Osimhen. Besides Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain and clubs from Saudi Arabia are also showing interest in the Nigerian striker, who has netted 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli. Notably, Osimhen has yet to play under Napoli’s new manager, Antonio Conte, in the pre-season.
If Arsenal decides to trigger Osimhen’s release clause, it would surpass their current record transfer fee, set just a year ago when they signed Declan Rice for £105m.
