A recent protest in Suleja, Niger State, turned tragic when at least three people were reportedly killed and several others injured. Eyewitnesses claim that the fatalities occurred due to gunfire from security forces, who were trying to control the crowd.
One of the victims, Yahaya Nda Isah, was hit by a stray bullet while riding his bike near the Suleja Police ‘A’ division. His family shared that he was not participating in the protest but was simply passing by when he was struck and killed.
Another person, identified as Mallam Abu, also died at the scene. Reports suggest there were additional shootings at the protest site and at Suleja Junction on the Abuja-Kaduna road. The number of people injured or killed in these incidents remains uncertain.
The news has led to widespread outrage across Nigeria, with many taking to social media to condemn the violence and demand accountability for the lives lost.
