In a recent development from Calabar, Cross River State, journalist Jonathan Abang Ugbal, who serves as the Managing Editor of CrossRiverWatch, has reportedly been arrested by police during a protest against poor governance. The demonstration, part of the #EndBadGovernance movement, saw Ugbal and several other protesters taken into custody by law enforcement.
According to activist Agba Jalingo, who confirmed the arrest, Ugbal was subjected to physical violence and was seen being beaten and handcuffed before being removed from the protest scene. Jalingo’s claims add to the growing concern about the treatment of journalists and activists in the region. Earlier, Ugbal had shared a video on social media from the protest location, highlighting his involvement in the call for better governance.
