The Nigerian government is taking a significant step to support education by disbursing N850 million today, July 31, to various educational institutions. This fund is intended to cover student fees and ensure more students have access to higher education.
Akintunde Sawyer, the Managing Director of the Nigeria Educational Loan Fund (NELFUND), announced this during a press briefing in Abuja. This new loan disbursement is part of a larger effort to make education more accessible and affordable for Nigerian students.
Sawyer highlighted that this N850 million disbursement is in addition to the N1.7 billion already provided to around 20,000 students. The total approved loans, which cover both institutional fees and student upkeep, amount to 260,000. This extensive loan program is set to benefit at least 1.2 million students across the country.
This educational loan initiative is backed by a law signed by President Bola Tinubu on April 3, showcasing the government’s commitment to supporting education and helping students achieve their academic goals.
By providing these loans, the Nigerian government is not only easing the financial burden on students and their families but also investing in the country’s future by ensuring more young people have the opportunity to pursue higher education. This move is expected to significantly impact the education sector and contribute to the overall development of the nation.
