Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has expressed her deep frustration after learning she will not be competing in the 100-metre race at the Paris Olympics. Despite having qualified for the event, administrative errors by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC) have led to her exclusion.
Ofili, who has dedicated the past four years to her training, took to social media to voice her disappointment. She pointed out that this situation is reminiscent of the problems faced during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where a lack of funds and inadequate athlete testing prevented many Nigerian athletes from competing.
In her post, Ofili criticized the organizations involved and called for accountability. She expressed her hope that she will be entered into the 200-metre event, which she is still eligible for.
Despite these setbacks, Ofili has an impressive track record. She is a Commonwealth Games silver medalist, an African Games champion, and a former World U20 champion. Currently, she ranks 23rd in the world for the 100m and 52nd in the 200m, with her highest rankings being 13th in the 200m and 23rd in the 100m.
Earlier this year, Ofili made headlines by breaking three records in a single month, highlighting her talent and commitment to the sport.
Stay tuned for updates on her participation in the 200m event and further developments regarding the administrative issues affecting Nigerian athletes.
