In a brave act of crime prevention, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command successfully stopped two armed robbers during a gun battle in the Jahi area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. The intense encounter happened around 10:45 pm on Thursday, when the robbers attempted to steal a Prado SUV at gunpoint.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, provided details of the incident to reporters. According to Igweh, a four-man robbery gang opened fire on police operatives who were on a crime prevention patrol led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Mabushi police division. This led to a fierce gunfight where two robbers were killed. The other two robbers, identified as Joshua Godfrey A.K.A. Dogo and Abdulsalam Mamuda, were arrested.
During the operation, the police recovered a blue Toyota Matrix with registration number BWR 626 JB from the robbers. Further investigation and cooperation from the arrested suspects led to the recovery of another stolen vehicle, a Toyota Corolla with registration number RBC 743 AH, which had likely been taken from an innocent resident.
Commissioner Igweh reaffirmed the command’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of lives and properties in Abuja. He urged residents and medical facilities to be vigilant and report any individuals with bullet wounds to the police. This call to action is crucial in preventing further criminal activities and ensuring the safety of the community.
The FCT Police Command’s swift and decisive action in this case serves as a reminder of their ongoing efforts to combat crime and maintain public safety in Abuja.
