In a recent session of the Nigerian Senate, Senate President Godswill Akpabio issued a public apology to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central. The apology came after Akpabio made an inappropriate comment, comparing her behavior to that of a “night club” when she spoke without permission.
This incident wasn’t isolated. Earlier, Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was also silenced when she protested her exclusion from key decisions about the nation’s capital.
Addressing the situation on the senate floor, Akpabio emphasized that he never intended to denigrate any woman. He expressed regret for his remarks and acknowledged the backlash. Akpabio revealed that his phone and that of his wife have been overwhelmed with calls and messages, many of which were insults due to his comment.
