DSS Arrests Youth Over Nationwide Protest Materials in Sokoto

In a recent development, the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a young Nigerian named Aliyu Sanusi in Sokoto. The arrest was reportedly made in connection with the planned nationwide protests against bad governance in the country.

The news of Sanusi’s arrest was shared by Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), on his X platform on Tuesday. According to Sowore, Sanusi was taken into custody by the DSS on Monday evening.

Sanusi was allegedly arrested for printing and distributing materials related to the protests. The arrest took place in the Sama Road area of Sokoto State.

Sowore has condemned the DSS’s actions, labeling them as lawless. He has demanded the immediate release of Sanusi, arguing that Sanusi was simply exercising his right to protest against the government’s failings.

“The lawless @OfficialDSSNG has arrested Aliyu Sanusi for printing and distributing #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria material in Sokoto state,” Sowore stated. “He was arrested yesterday evening from the Sama Road Area in Sokoto. The DSS is directed to release Aliyu Sanusi immediately.”

The arrest of Aliyu Sanusi has sparked outrage among activists and citizens, who see it as a violation of the right to protest and a further attempt to suppress dissent against the government.
