Five National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were kidnapped in Ondo State have been freed after a ransom of N5 million was paid. The abduction took place on July 18, 2024, on the Ifon-Owo highway as the corps members were returning from their orientation camp in Enugu State.
The victims, Adewole Oluwaseun, Oluwadara Feranmi, Andrew Patience, Oribamise Taiwo, and Ajayi Lekan, were traveling together when they were seized. Tragically, the driver of their vehicle and a female passenger were killed during the incident.
Lawal Happiness, a relative of one of the victims, shared that the group had completed their NYSC orientation and was on their way home to collect personal items before officially starting their service. They left Enugu State at 9 a.m. on the day they were kidnapped.
The Ondo State police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed that the corps members have been released and are now safe.
