In a recent development affecting Nigerian passport holders, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced new requirements for obtaining a visa. Effective from July 15, 2024, travelers from Nigeria must undergo a Document Verification Number (DVN) process before applying for their UAE visa. According to information released by UAE authorities, Nigerian passport holders seeking to visit the UAE must first obtain a Document Verification Number (DVN). This number is issued for a fee of N640,000, which is non-refundable and excludes VAT. The DVN remains valid for 14 days from the date of issuance or until the visa application is processed, whichever occurs first. Notably, children under the age of 13 are exempt from the DVN requirement for their visa applications.

The implementation of these new visa issuance guidelines follows extensive negotiations between the governments of the UAE and Nigeria. Previously, visa issuance to Nigerians had been suspended for over two years due to diplomatic tensions between the two nations. The recent agreement between the governments now allows Nigerian passport holders to apply for visas again starting July 15, 2024, under updated controls and conditions.
