In recent statements, senior APC member Eze Chukwuemeka Eze has raised concerns about the state of development in Rivers State, accusing Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, of obstructing progress. According to Eze, Wike’s actions are impeding efforts to transform Rivers State into a significant economic hub for Africa.

Eze highlighted that while many state governments are focusing on addressing the economic difficulties facing their populations, Rivers State appears to be embroiled in unnecessary political confrontations instigated by Wike. These conflicts, allegedly supported by elements within the Presidency, are diverting attention from crucial development initiatives.

The situation escalated in October 2023 when the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, valued at billions of naira, was devastated by fire. Authorities suspect the incident was caused by arsonists affiliated with Wike’s camp, who allegedly sought to create a crisis scenario. The aftermath aimed to pressure the federal government into declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing security challenges purportedly beyond the state’s control.

Eze emphasized the urgent need for political stability and a conducive environment for development in Rivers State. He called for all stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of the people and focus on constructive governance, setting aside personal and political rivalries that could hinder progress.

 Eze said,

“The state government has committed to rebuild the complex with a substantial amount of money, funds that could have been channeled to other meaningful ventures beneficial to the people had there been peace.”
