Two people in an SUV were kidnapped by gunmen on Saturday afternoon.

Witnesses reported the incident occurred near Nnamdi Azikiwe University’s back gate in the Ifite area of Awka.

This comes amid increasing concerns about insecurity in Awka, the capital city of Anambra State.

Last week, three alleged cultists were killed on Sunday, followed by another killing on Monday.

In a video of Saturday’s incident, hooded gunmen forced the SUV’s occupants into their black Sienna vehicle.

A local witness said the kidnappers fired shots into the air and stole the victims’ car as they fled.

Resident Lawrence Ibemesi expressed concern about the worsening security situation in Awka, urging authorities to take action.

Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said they are reviewing the video and working with eyewitnesses to track down the kidnappers. He also mentioned that strategic teams have been alerted at key locations.

Regarding recent cult-related killings, Ikenga denied awareness and asked the reporter to provide evidence.
