Anambra Judiciary Workers Announce Strike, Courts to Shut Down from Monday

Judiciary workers in Anambra State have started a strike.A letter informing the state government about the strike, released to journalists on Saturday in Awka, says the strike starts on Monday.

This will halt court activities and other judiciary functions in the state.

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) is striking because the state government did not honor agreements from 2011 and 2015.At a press conference in Awka, leaders Mr. Henry Ezeoke and Ugochukwu Nwezi explained the strike is due to the government’s failure to pay the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUS).

A letter to judiciary stakeholders states the strike will continue indefinitely until the government meets their demands.

The letter, sent to various judiciary officials, calls for all judiciary staff to stop working.

This strike follows the end of a 21-day ultimatum given to the state government, which was ignored.

Read Letter,

“Based on the failure of the Anambra State Government to comply with the agreement reached in 2011 and 2015 respectively with the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Anambra State Branch for the full implementation of the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUS), a notice is hereby issued.

“All staff of the Anambra State Judiciary are directed to withdraw their services, effective from Monday the 15th day of July, 2024, pending further directives by the union in the state.”
