A Keke rider has ended his life after failing to get his seized tricycle back from government officials in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
Witnesses in a video shared on X say the tricyclist was stopped by officials for a supposed traffic violation.
The officials then took his tricycle to their office near Jubilee Estate along the Ikorodu-Sagamu Expressway.
The tricycle rider tried to get his vehicle back but was unsuccessful.
Feeling hopeless, the rider hung himself from a tree in front of the offices of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and Vehicle Inspection Officers in Ikorodu.
The video shows a body hanging from a tree with a rope around the neck. A note in the video suggested that the rider’s actions were due to his frustration over not being able to recover his tricycle.
An eyewitness, Prince Excel, said, “This is early Thursday morning, July 11, 2024. A tragic incident just happened. A man committed suicide on the main road at Jubilee Estate in front of the LASTMA gate on Sagamu Road. This is very unfortunate.”
The note read, “A tricycle rider just committed suicide. He hung himself in front of LASTMA’s office at Odogunyan in Ikorodu. His tricycle was taken from him, and after begging for it back for a long time, he was refused. So, he decided to hang himself in front of their office.
