A woman by the name of Precious Yusuf was detained by the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for trying to smuggle drugs into the medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja.
Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in Abuja, saw the release of this information by Samson Duza, the Command’s public relations officer.
Precious Yusuf arrived in the Kuje detention facility on Tuesday, July 9, posing as a visitor for an inmate, according to Mr. Duza’s report.
Food packets within a box were discovered to contain goods suspected of being marijuana and other harmful narcotics during a normal search by the center’s police.
Duzasaid said,
“The suspect admitted that she was sent to deliver these items to an inmate at the custodial centre,”
The suspect should be turned over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for additional investigation and prosecution, according to an order from Ibrahim Usman, Controller of the FCT Command, which he also highlighted.
Mr. Usman cautioned drug dealers not to attempt to sneak illicit drugs into the detention facilities by pretending to be visitors, stressing that guards are on guard and ready to arrest such attempts. He urged the populace and well-meaning Nigerians to back the efforts of the Correctional Service to keep society safe and reform prisoners. The public was reassured by Mr. Usman that individuals who are lawfully imprisoned are in secure care.
