Former Power Minister, Saleh Mamman, collapsed in court, delaying his hearing. He entered the courtroom with wet clothes. The judge, Justice Omotosho, asked why Mamman was sweating or if it was raining. Mamman said water was poured on him.
EFCC lawyer Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika, SAN, told the court about Mamman’s health issues discussed outside the courtroom. Mamman’s lawyer, Femi Ate, SAN, explained that Mamman collapsed and was treated by court medical staff. He was served with the charges after being revived.
Ate asked for a delay until Monday for Mamman to recover. The judge said the court’s schedule only allowed a hearing in late September, so Ate withdrew the request. Olumide-Fusika filed an amended charge and asked for it to be read, but the judge disagreed.
The judge asked Mamman if he was fit to continue, and Mamman said yes. Mamman explained he collapsed due to taking medication without eating, which caused his blood pressure to drop. He was ready to proceed with the hearing.
The judge noted such incidents can happen to anyone. Mamman pointed out an error in the EFCC’s charges. The judge postponed the arraignment until 1 PM.
The hearing was delayed after Mamman collapsed outside the Abuja Federal High Court before his scheduled plea.
