Warri-Itakpe Rail Service Re-opens after Accident Incident

Following a recent accident, the rail transit service between Warri and Itakpe has recommenced operation many commuters were buying tickets at the Ujevwe train station early on Monday morning, around 6:45m excited to get back on the train.

A coach on the Itakpe train derailed at the Major Gen. David Ejor rail station on Thursday of last week. Although fortunately no one was hurt, the event forced the suspension of train services on the Warri-Itakpe track on Friday in order to make time for essential maintenance and safety inspections.

In order to assess the repairs and guarantee the track’s safety, Senator Ahmed Alkali, the Minister of Transportation, stopped by the Agbor-Abraka train statioconcerning the security of the train services. In order to repair the track, he commended the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) for their prompt action and efficient use of in-house resources.

Senator Alkali stated.

“We are happy that the incident did not lead to any casualty. It is an operational issue, and we are pleased to see that NRC has used its internal resources to fix the track. By tomorrow, Monday, the train will resume its operation. We thank God that the accident did not claim any life,”

Passengers’ faith has been restored by the minister’s guarantee and the NRC’s swift action, resulting in a smooth restart of rail service. With its frequent service of large numbers of commuters, the Warri-Itakpe rail line is an essential route.
