Enugu Police Clarify Viral Video: Case of Fraud Involving Two Sex Workers, Not Organ Harvesting

The Enugu State Police Command has addressed a viral video showing two women, allegedly rescued from a hotel room in Enugu, where it was initially claimed they were being tied up for organ harvesting by two young men.

In a statement, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson for the command, clarified that preliminary investigations revealed the case to be one of fraud and not murder or organ harvesting, as some reports suggested.

According to the police, the women, who work as commercial sex workers, had met the young men on July 3, 2024, at a hotel on Agbani Road, Enugu. They arranged to meet again the following day. During this second meeting, the suspects allegedly beat and tied the women up in the hotel’s toilet after threatening them and taking their phones and bank account details, including their Personal Identification Numbers (PINs).

The suspects managed to leave the hotel before the women were rescued, as shown in the viral video. They fraudulently withdrew a total of ₦120,000 from the victims’ bank accounts.

The police recovered a bag containing two kitchen knives and sportswear left behind by the suspects. An intelligence-guided investigation is ongoing to capture the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.

DSP Ndukwe advised hotel owners and managers to be more vigilant and ensure proper screening of lodgers with verifiable details before accommodation. He also cautioned young women against going out with strangers, especially men, to avoid falling victim to similar crimes.
