John Cena, the famous American actor and wrestler, has announced his retirement from World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) events. Cena made this unexpected announcement during his appearance at the WWE Money in the Bank event in Canada.
The 47-year-old, who started acting 18 years ago, said his final wrestling match will be in 2025 as part of his farewell tour. Cena is considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time, achieving world champion status 16 times since joining WWE in 2001.
John Cena told fans in Toronto,
“Tonight I officially announce my retirement from the WWE,”
The crowd reacted with surprise and later chanted “thank you Cena.” Cena, wearing a t-shirt with “The Last Time is Now” and his signature denim shorts, responded, “What an incredible gesture of kindness.”
In a press conference later, Cena said he plans to stay connected with the WWE family in some way, even though he feels “at my end” physically.
Cena made his acting debut in 2006 with the movie The Marine. He has since appeared in several big-budget films like The Suicide Squad, Fast & Furious 9, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He has been performing part-time in WWE since 2018, when his acting career really took off.
Besides wrestling and acting, Cena is also the most requested celebrity by kids for the charity Make-A-Wish. He holds a Guinness World Record for the number of wishes granted to children with critical illnesses through Make-A-Wish.
