Human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has openly criticized police force PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, regarding his statement about the death of 33-year-old suspect Erasmus Emeya. According to Adejobi, Emeya, who was arrested on charges of cultism and rape, died of asphyxiation and not as a result of torture.
In a detailed post, Adejobi explained that Emeya was apprehended for his alleged involvement in cult activities and rape. He mentioned that an autopsy was conducted in the presence of the deceased’s family’s doctor(s), which concluded that Emeya’s death was due to asphyxiation.
However, Gwamnishu strongly disagreed with Adejobi’s claims. He questioned the credibility of the autopsy and the quick dissemination of information without thorough investigation. Gwamnishu emphasized that Adejobi, being a well-educated and decent professional, should not rush to the media with unverified facts. He expressed skepticism about the cause of death, wondering how Emeya could have died of asphyxiation in custody.
Moreover, Gwamnishu raised concerns about labeling Emeya a cultist and rapist before any court conviction. He stressed that such accusations should not be made public without a legal verdict. Gwamnishu urged Adejobi and the police force to ensure due process and thorough investigation before making public statements.
The human rights activist took to social media to voice his concerns, highlighting the importance of accuracy and responsibility in handling sensitive cases like Emeya’s.
‘’Sir, with due respect @adejobimuyiwa
Why do you Police Image Makers always report what you were told without investigation? How can a suspect die of asphyxiation? That’s suffocation. Did you visit the scene so they show you where he died of asphyxiation ? Autopsy result is what you are coming to quote and also boldly tagging the young man a cultist who has not been convicted and can’t even defend himself now.
DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS SACK K!LLING? OR I SHOULD EXPLAIN MORE?
Did you make findings about his accusers? Did you visit the community where he was said to have killed and rape people?
SOME OF US HAS SPENT YEARS IN SOLITARY CELLS AND NEVER DID WE DIE OF SUFFOCATION.
What kind of cell was the young man locked up?
Does it mean the mother’s is lying with what she saw?
@adejobimuyiwa you are too decent and well educated to be rushing to the media without getting all the facts. PLEASE GET A TEAM OF PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS to assist the Force in unraveling the true situation of things before updating the media.”
