UNIBEN Has Been Shut Down Following Intense Protests – Students Told To Vacate The Campus Immediately.

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has been shut down following intense protests. The administration has directed all students to vacate the campus immediately.

The protests erupted due to unresolved issues between the students and the university management. The students’ grievances included poor living conditions in the hostels, inadequate facilities, and dissatisfaction with recent policy changes. Despite attempts at dialogue, the situation escalated, leading to a campus-wide disruption.

The statement read:

“Due to the refusal of University of Benin students to reconsider their demands for a 24-hour electricity supply and other unrealistic expectations, the University Senate has decided to shut down academic activities indefinitely. Students are required to leave the hostels immediately, and all relevant university units should take note and comply. Non-teaching staff and essential duty staff are exempt from this shutdown.”

In response, the university authorities decided to close the institution to ensure the safety of both students and staff. The students have been given strict orders to leave the campus without delay. This sudden closure has left many students and their families scrambling to make alternative arrangements.

The university management has promised to address the issues raised by the students and to work towards reopening the institution as soon as possible. However, the timeline for resolving these problems and resuming academic activities remains uncertain.
