Several workers in Lagos have expressed their frustration over the continuous rain on Wednesday, which is causing significant traffic congestion and flooding in many parts of the state.
According to reports from NAN, Lagos is experiencing continuous rainfall, resulting in severe traffic jams and widespread flooding across the city.
Employees who spoke with NAN mentioned that the rain has caused an increase in transportation costs, compounding the existing economic difficulties.
During the rainy season in Lagos, it is common for transportation systems, businesses, and daily routines to be severely disrupted by the weather conditions.
Mr. Oluwaseun Olatunbosun, a resident of Alimosho and an employee at Fibrenet in Ikeja, shared with NAN that transport fares consistently rise whenever it rains.
He said,
“But now, with the rain, the fare could be between N1,000 and N1,400.
“It’s concerning given the economic situation in the country. Sometimes, I don’t even go to work because of the fare hike when it rains,”
A teacher, Mrs. Juliet Okonkwo, told NAN that most of her students arrive late during the rainy season.
Okonkwo added that the rain affects both students and teachers.
She said,
“We have to get to work despite the traffic jams because we are responsible for the children,”
Mr. Shola Ayodele, an architect in Lagos, told NAN that work tends to slow down during the rainy season.
He added that his site engineers often fail to come to work, citing the increased fares as the reason for their absences.
