Patience Jonathan: “I Won’t Return to Aso Villa”

Former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, recently expressed that she would refuse any request to return to the presidential villa as Nigeria’s First Lady.

In a widely shared video, Mrs. Jonathan addressed a public event on Friday, highlighting the immense pressure associated with the role.

She remarked,

“The stress of Nigeria is too much,” and noted how much younger she appears now compared to her time in office.

She elaborated, saying,

“If you call me now for villa, I wouldn’t go there. I won’t. Don’t you see how young I am? The stress is so much. The stress of Nigeria is so much. If God manages to bring you out of it, you should glorify Him. He has taken you there once, why do you want to go there again?”

INFOLAND reports that her husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan, vacated the presidential villa in 2015 after losing the election to Muhammadu Buhari. Since then, Patience Jonathan has been enjoying a less stressful life away from the political spotlight.

During her tenure as the First Lady, Patience Jonathan became a cultural icon known for her humorous and memorable phrases in pidgin English, such as “na only you waka come,” which became popular memes.
