Bayelsa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has made significant strides in combating drug trafficking, recently arresting 155 suspects for various drug offenses.
NDLEA’s state commander, Kanu Chukwuemeka, revealed these achievements during a press briefing in Yenagoa. He also announced the seizure of 97.826kg of illicit drugs.
Chukwuemeka expressed concerns over ongoing attacks on NDLEA personnel and highlighted the urgent need for a marine unit and gunboats to enhance operations in coastal areas.
Despite challenges, NDLEA has successfully admitted and rehabilitated 6 out of 14 youths undergoing in-patient drug rehabilitation under Chukwuemeka’s leadership.
Furthermore, NDLEA conducted over 100 Integrity Drug Tests and provided brief intervention counseling to 107 clients, focusing on early detection and prevention of substance abuse.
The Command has also intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, reaching communities, schools, motor parks, and radio stations across Bayelsa State.
