The Nigerian police have taken control of security at the Emir of Kano’s palace. They have increased security at the two palaces occupied by the rival princes, Aminu Ado-Bayero and Lamido Sanusi, who are both vying for the Emir’s position.
On Sunday, June 23, reports surfaced that police officers had replaced local hunters who were providing security for the reinstated Lamido Sanusi at the main palace.
Ado-Bayero, who was deposed by the state government last month, is currently residing at the Nasarawa mini palace.
Gumel told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
Armed personnel have been deployed to provide security at the Kofar Kudu Palace, the residence of Emir Malam Mohammadu Sunusi, and the Nasarawa Mimi Palace, the residence of Emir Aminu Bayero.”
On Monday, outgoing Commissioner of Police in Kano, Usaini Gumel, announced that additional security forces have been deployed to both palaces.
