Senator Benson Friday Konbowei from Bayelsa Central, accused of forging a certificate, has been cleared of all charges.
A High Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at Apo dismissed the case against him.
Konbowei, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was charged on March 26 with three counts, including forging a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate.
On Monday, Justice Christopher Oba cleared Konbowei and dismissed the charges after prosecutor Reuben Egwuaba requested to stop the case.
During Monday’s hearing, Egwuaba informed the court that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), had revoked his authorization to prosecute and ordered him to withdraw the charges.
Egwuaba then applied to withdraw the charges, a move not opposed by the defense lawyer, Chris Uche (SAN), who was supported by his brother, Gordy Uche (SAN), and other defense team members.
Justice Oba agreed to strike out the charges but declined Uche’s request to dismiss the charges entirely.
