NDLEA Seizes 4,732kg of Hard Drugs in Adamawa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Adamawa State has confiscated 4,732.128 kilograms of illegal drugs over the past year.

The seized drugs include Cannabis sativa (Indian hemp), Methamphetamine (known as Ice), Cocaine, Tramadol, Exol-5, Diazepam tablets, Codeine-based syrup, Rohypnol tablets, and Pentazocine injections. The seizures occurred across the state over the past year.

During a press briefing in Yola on Friday, marking the start of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, NDLEA State Commander Agboalu Samson stated that the amount of drugs seized from June 2023 to May 2024 increased by 75% compared to the previous year.

Samson mentioned that while there are fewer people involved in drug trafficking, the amount of drugs being dealt has risen.

He highlighted a significant case where NDLEA and other agencies raided a house and seized 1,898 blocks of Cannabis sativa, weighing 1,862 kilograms (1.9 tons).

In the past year, the NDLEA arrested 454 suspected drug dealers in Adamawa, consisting of 447 men and 7 women.

Their prosecution efforts led to the conviction of 148 people, including 145 men and 3 women. Sentences ranged from six months to ten years.
