Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu, forecasts outcomes for Rivers State amid renewed tensions between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Activist Aisha Yesufu predicts the unfolding situation in Rivers State due to escalating tensions between current Governor Siminalayi Fubara and former Governor Nyesom Wike.
The conflict between Fubara and Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has sparked turmoil in Rivers State.
Some Local Government Chairmen faced violence on Tuesday when they tried to enter their offices after their tenures ended on Monday.
Reports indicated that there were random shootings in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, allegedly by the state police.
The chairmen, loyal to Wike, claim that the state House of Assembly extended their terms by six months.
Reacting on social media, Aisha Yesufu criticized the FCT Minister for his role in the crisis.
Aisha asserted that President Bola Tinubu would prefer to ally with Governor Fubara rather than Wike, noting that Wike is not crucial to Rivers State’s political structure.
She wrote,
“Wike thought he was smart and decided to dine with the devil not knowing he was on the menu.
“A powerless Wike is a great asset to Tinubu and Tinubu will ensure every power that Wike has is stripped so he becomes a proper errand boy that can be controlled completely.
“Without the structure of Rivers State Wike is a haggard old politician and I bet you Tinubu will rather have a deal with Fubara than Wike”.
