Chaos has erupted in Rivers State as local government chairmen were instructed by Governor Sim Fubara to vacate their offices after their terms ended on June 17.
Governor Fubara, in a broadcast on Tuesday morning, directed Heads of Local Government Administration (HLGAs) to assume immediate control of the LGA Councils, expressing gratitude to outgoing chairmen for their service.
Despite the governor’s orders, some chairmen aligned with former governor Nyesom Wike attempted to enter local government council headquarters with police support, facing resistance from Rivers youths.
Rivers youths, assisted by security personnel, fiercely opposed the pro-Wike former LGA chairmen, driving them away and vandalizing their images and symbols.
