Over 50 people lost their lives and many others, including women and children, were kidnapped during a raid by bandits on Yargoje village in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.

A local resident, Hassan Ya’u, reported that a large group of bandits on motorbikes invaded Yargoje village on the night of Sunday, June 9, 2024. He also mentioned that several villagers were taken, and properties were stolen.

He told journalists on Monday,

“They shot sporadically at people, claiming the lives of more than 50 (of us), including my younger brother,” 

Another witness stated that local vigilantes and police officers were also among those killed in the attack.

He said

“Our town has turned into a death zone. Almost every house in the village has fallen victim to this attack,“

“We are currently carrying out a headcount to determine how many people have been abducted. More dead bodies were recovered this morning.”
