Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has increased the reward for finding those responsible for killing Nigerian soldiers in the state.
On Friday, Otti announced that the reward for information leading to the capture of those who killed five soldiers at Obikabia junction in Aba has been raised from N25 million to N30 million.
He made this announcement when Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of Air Staff, visited him in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.
Previously, on May 30, gunmen had killed five soldiers at Obikabia junction in Aba.
The governor explained that the reward was increased by an additional N5 million, contributed by a state native living in the U.S.
He said;
“Interestingly, the government has placed a bounty of N25 million and just yesterday, an Abia son, who also comes from Obingwa and lives in the United States, sent us N5 million to upgrade the bounty to N30 million.
“So I am happy to announce that the bounty has just been upgraded to N30 million, to encourage anyone that will have useful information that will lead to the apprehension of the criminals,
Otti also mentioned that the state government is collaborating with security agencies to prevent similar incidents in the future.
He assured that the government is working tirelessly to keep the state safe and secure.
The governor said,
“We also want to thank the intelligence service of the DSS, as they dispatched quite some people here to help us to unravel this case.
“We are very single-minded about it. We must fish them out and ensure that they get the message that this place is a no-go area for terrorists, killers, kidnappers and other criminals,” the governor said.
