Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has announced that he will not be backing either Governor Siminalayi Fubara or Nyesom Wike in the current political crisis in the state.
Amaechi made this clear during a visit to All Progressive Congress leader, Hon. Okorinama West, at West’s home in Port Harcourt on Friday.
The ex-Minister of Transportation said that Governor Fubara’s popularity is mainly due to negative reactions against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Amaechi added that the political situation in the state is shifting, with some of his previous supporters now changing sides for personal reasons.
He also urged young people to get involved in the state’s political scene to help shape its future.
Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, says that he will not be supporting either Governor Siminalayi Fubara or Nyesom Wike in the current political situation in the state.
Amaechi made this statement during a visit to a leader of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Hon. Okorinama West at his private residence in Port Harcourt on Friday.
The former Minister of Transportation attributed Governor Fubara’s popularity to the public backlash against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Wike.
He also commented on the political dynamics in the state, suggesting that some politicians who were his supporters were switching allegiances due to personal interests.
Amaechi further encouraged young supporters to take an active role in shaping the state’s leadership.
He said,
“I can’t stand and join either Sim or Wike. I will not join Sim, I will not join Wike.
“But don’t forget, they are not big without you people, I hope you know that.”
He added,
“What Sim thinks is popularity today is because he is anti-Wike. That’s his popularity, not that Sim is the best man on earth. It’s because he is anti-Wike and because the state is tired of Wike.”
