Anambra Commissioner of police orders investigation into dead baby found in a bag in Awka

The Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has called for an urgent investigation into the discovery of a dead baby in a sack at a garbage dump on Ifite Road, Awka, the state capital, on Sunday, June 2.

Early investigations suggest the baby, likely just a day old, was abandoned by an unknown woman believed to be the mother. The police have retrieved the body and are following leads from witnesses at the scene to identify the person responsible.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, confirmed the news and stated that the Police Commissioner condemns the act, calling it immoral, “cruel, and inhumane.” He urged parents and guardians to be more attentive to their children and encouraged anyone with helpful information to contact the Police Command headquarters.

He also provided contact numbers for those with information about the incident, ensuring that all shared details will remain confidential. The numbers are the Command Control Room at 07039194332 and the PPRO at 08039334002.
