In the first half, Real Madrid did not perform well, and Dortmund missed several opportunities to score. Karim Adeyemi almost scored after dribbling past Thibaut Courtois but missed the net.

Nicklas Fullkrug also hit the post as Madrid struggled to create clear scoring chances despite having more possession.

Real Madrid unexpectedly took the lead with 15 minutes left when Carvajal headed in a corner from Toni Kroos. Vinicius secured the victory with a second goal seven minutes later, ensuring Madrid won the trophy.
