Nigerian footballer Raphael Onyedika became a champion in Belgium on Sunday night, May 26, after Club Brugge tied 0-0 with Cercle Brugge in a tightly contested derby.
The draw allowed Club Brugge to win the Championship Playoffs with 50 points, just one point more than Union St. Gilloise, who defeated Genk 2-0.
Club Brugge’s 0-0 draw with Cercle Brugge was their final league game of the season on Sunday night, and Onyedika, a Super Eagles player, played the entire match.
This season, the 23-year-old midfielder scored three goals in 30 league games for Club Brugge. He had previously won the Danish League title with FC Midtjylland.
With this victory, Brugge has secured a spot in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League for next season.
Onyedika is also part of Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic.
