A group of people, believed to be supporters of Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, attacked protesters from the Edo State chapter who were demanding Abure’s removal at the party’s office in Abuja.
Trouble began when the protesters arrived at the party headquarters in vehicles, holding signs and chanting.
When some protesters got out of a vehicle, the suspected thugs attacked the vehicles with sticks, causing the drivers to leave.
However, police and DSS officers intervened when the thugs started throwing stones at the nearby Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, dispersing journalists covering the incident.
The presence of security officials prevented the situation from getting worse.
