The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed that bandits killed 11 people in an attack on three villages in Bakori Local Government Area.
Spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu said in a statement on Sunday, May 26, 2024, in Katsina, that a report claiming 40 people were killed is false.
“We know about a misleading report on Facebook saying bandits killed 40 people in Bakori. This is not true,” he explained.
“The command wants to clarify that this report is incorrect.
“On May 25, 2024, bandits attacked Unguwar Lamido village in Bakori and killed 11 people.
“When the Divisional Police Officer in Bakori heard about it, he quickly sent police officers to the village. They restored order and stopped further violence.”
The spokesperson urged the public to ignore the false report and warned against spreading unverified news.
He advised people to check the facts through official sources before sharing information to avoid causing panic and fear.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police, A. A. Musa, who expressed condolences to the victims’ families and condemned the attack.
The commissioner has ordered a detailed investigation and sent more officers to catch the attackers.
“The Commissioner also asked anyone with useful information to help the investigation and bring the attackers to justice.
“The investigation is ongoing. The command is working with community members to find and arrest those responsible for the attack,” he added.
