Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston and his 61-year-old mother, Janice Turner, were arrested after a raid at Kingston’s rented mansion in Florida on Thursday, May 23. They are both facing multiple charges of grand theft and fraud, according to warrants from the Broward Sheriff’s Office released on Friday, May 24.
Janice Turner Kingston’s mother was arrested in Florida during the raid, while Kingston was taken into custody in Fort Irwin, southern California, on charges based on a Florida warrant.
During the raid, authorities loaded U-Haul trucks with items from the mansion and towed away at least one car from the driveway.
Between October 2023 and March 2024, Kingston, his mother, and other unnamed individuals illegally obtained items from businesses including Mazal Jewelry Inc., Maree Inc., Ocean Auto Club, and Expimled FL, valued at over $100,000 through fraudulent means, according to the warrants.
The stolen items included furniture worth over $80,000, a Cadillac Escalade, and over $400,000 worth of jewelry.
Earlier in May, Turner was sued by Curran Living Trust for $100,000 in unpaid rent, according to court documents from Broward County obtained by USA Today.
Kingston is also facing a lawsuit from Ver Ver Entertainment for breach of contract and fraud in February for allegedly failing to pay for a 232-inch TV and premium sound system. The company claims Kingston used his celebrity status, including a connection to Justin Bieber, to negotiate the price. They are seeking $30,000 and attorney fees in a jury trial.
