Some armed attackers suspected to be Fulani herdsmen invaded the Gujiyaje community near Manawashi village of Fika Local Government Area (LGA) of Yobe State and razed down the entire houses, livestock and foodstuff.
The incident took place last Monday, with no casualty, even as thousands of residents were Displaced.
Sources revealed on Tuesday that the invading herdsmen were on a reprisal mission against the villagers following an alleged pushback by the communities when their watermelon farmlands were encroached on by cattle belonging to the Fulanis.
“Armed herdsmen stormed the communities on motorcycles with most of them carrying bows and arrows as well as marchets, before setting ablaze properties..
“Though casualties are still uncertain, the invading herdsmen succeeded in burning down several houses in the area.
“The initial altercation between the herdsmen and farmers in the communities happened in January this year when the cattle destroyed the water melon farms.
“It was learnt that the herdsmen who claimed that some of their cattle were rustled by the farmers vowed to teach the communities the lessons of their lives.” The Source added.
As at the time of filing this report, no arrest has been made and the traumatized farmers/villagers are counting their loss.
