A devastating fire swept through a three-storey building at 33 Kudirat Abiola Road, Oregun, Lagos State, late on Friday night, causing significant damage. The fire, which began around 11:49 pm, was triggered by an electrical surge in one of the rooms, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
Nosa Okunbor, LASEMA’s Head of Public Affairs, reported that the agency received emergency calls about the fire at 11:49 pm and dispatched its response team shortly after. The team arrived at the scene just after midnight and discovered that the fire had started in an office on the third floor.
Thanks to the quick and coordinated efforts of LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire & Rescue Service, the fire was contained before it could spread further. However, the blaze had already consumed two bedrooms on the third floor, resulting in a total loss of property estimated to be in the millions of naira.
The prompt response from emergency services helped limit the fire’s damage, but the incident serves as a reminder of the importance of electrical safety and the need for vigilant fire prevention measures.
