The Lagos State House of Assembly has suspended all construction in Makoko and Shogunle for two weeks, pending reconciliation talks with residents. The move includes a 250-metre setback from the Third Mainland Bridge and an additional buffer beyond the power line corridor.
Committees of ten members from each community, including women, youths, students, and traditional leaders, are to represent residents and address concerns, according to the Assembly.
The State Executive Council is finalising compensation plans for affected individuals, while relief items are being distributed by local and state authorities.
Community leaders were urged to cooperate fully, avoid personal interests, and ensure peace to achieve a lasting resolution within the two-week timeframe.
