The Lagos State Government has arrested 50 individuals who were living on the Abule Ado Pedestrian Bridge. The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared the update on X. He said the action followed intelligence gathered from a viral video.
According to Wahab, officials carried out a clearance operation on and under the bridge. The video showed several people sleeping on makeshift beds, staying inside tents, or sitting along the walkway. Authorities described the occupants as miscreants.
The commissioner explained that the operation was necessary to restore order and improve public safety. He said pedestrian bridges are meant for safe crossing and should not be turned into temporary shelters or illegal settlements.
Wahab added that the government will continue monitoring public spaces across the state. He assured residents that similar enforcement actions will be taken to protect infrastructure and ensure safety for commuters.
